History of the
Dog Park and PAWS
PAWS (People Aware of the Well-being of the Speechless) began as
a dog park advocacy group back in 1998. It's founder, Janine
Jordan (now Janine Lilja), wanted to provide a place for dogs to
run free, socialize, play and exercise in the comfort of an
enclosed area; a place where dogs don't have to worry about
cars, having too little room to play, or getting lost.
After four long years of lobbying
for a dog park in Vacaville, the dream is a reality!
PAWS has a ten-member
Board of
Directors, several committees, dozens of volunteers and
financial supporters, and is growing every week. We're a 100%
volunteer organization and are not-for-profit.
About
Janine Jordan, PAWS Founder
Janine Jordan-Lilja
(with Tommy)
is a life-long "Vacavillian." She remembers growing up in a small
town where everyone knew each other. Growing up in this small
community, she had time to realize her love for animals. She has
always felt that God meant for her to care for and help animals.
Animals have always been there for her when she needed some
comforting, and now she wants to be there for them.
People Aware of the
Well-Being of the Speechless (PAWS) is a registered non
profit organization responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of
Janine Jordan’s Park for dogs. PAWS was established in 1997
by Janine Jordan through the inspiration of her 6 month old
Dalmatian, Sir Thomas.
Janine strives for
the happiness and well being of animals, most importantly dogs.
She feels for those speechless “children” kept confined every day
of their lives, believing they too have emotions (as we do) and
realized how sad they must feel.
Our goal is to
provide a beautiful SAFE place for dogs to socialize with lots
fun things to play with/on in an environment for all to enjoy.
