News
Effective July 1, 2009 the PAWS annual fee is going up to $35
The PAWS Board met with Hew Hesterman of the City of Vacaville a few months back to try and get the City to take over maintaining the park. During that meeting it was mentioned that the City wants us to stop selling parking passes for $25. The annual pass from the City is $50. The city wants to start getting that money. If that were to happen PAWS would have no source of income. The PAWS Board would not agree to this unless the City would agree to take over the maintenance of the park. As of today, the city will not agree to take over the park therefore PAWS will continue to sell the parking passes, however, the fee will go up to $35 which is still $15 less than the City’s annual price.
Our goal is to raise money so that we can open another park within the city limits. We are going to ask city counsel at a future meeting to approve another dog park within the city limits that would have a nice grassy turf and areas for small and large dogs. The park at lagoon valley is very difficult to maintain as grass will not grow and we have received many requests over the years to have a grassy area, an area just for little dogs and an area or two within the city. We understand that the seniors in the area may not drive on the highway and are unable to get to Lagoon Valley. An area within the city would allow more of our residents the opportunity to exercise their pets.
The Board realizes we have been very fortunate to have had Jack Carlson perform the maintenance the past few years and before him Greg Bosley. Because of them we have not had to pay anyone to do these jobs. However, now that Jack has left, we have decided to obtain bids from local lawn companies to maintain the park. It has been very difficult to find volunteers on a regular basis to do this work.
A BIG thank you to Jack Carlson
A BIG thank you to Jack Carlson for all his years as maintenance volunteer. For the past four years Jack has had the thankless job of cleaning up the park, empting trash, mowing and weeding. Jack has had to step down as maintenance volunteer. The PAWS Board can’t thank Jack enough for all his hard work.
